WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. – Two Hawkeye goals pushed the University of Iowa women’s soccer past Purdue for a 2-1 win Sunday afternoon at Folk Field. The victory improves Iowa’s record to 8-6-1 overall, 3-4-1 in Big Ten action.
Sophomore Natalie Winters got the Hawkeyes on the board when she sent a header over the goalkeeper and into the net from 18 yards out. Senior Corey Burns nabbed her second assist of the season on the play.
The Hawkeyes scored again at the 78:45 mark, this time off the foot of senior Karly Stuenkel. The Illinois native has collected 11 points in 2017.
Purdue attempted a comeback late in the game, scoring in the 87th minute but Iowa was able to stop another Purdue shot just two minutes later and avoid an overtime decision.
KEY HAWKEYE PERFORMER
Sophomore Natalie Winters knocked in her second goal of the season during Sunday’s matchup. She now has nine points for the Hawkeyes in 2017 and 16 overall.

“I continue to be impressed with this team’s ability to show resiliency along this tough Big Ten season. After Thursday, they were disappointed not to have taken advantage of a good performance but today they were determined not to leave Indiana without points. We are very determined to get into the Big Ten Tournament and extend this season together. However, there are a lot of games to play.”

The Hawkeyes host their makeup game with Nebraska on Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. (CT). The match was originally scheduled to take place on Sept. 15. Admission is free.
