LINCOLN, Neb. — Nebraska put up 98 points — its highest total since joining the Big Ten Conference in 2011 — to hand the University of Iowa men’s basketball team a 98-84 loss Saturday night at Pinnacle Bank Arena.
 
The Huskers shot 57.7 percent from the field and 57.7 percent from 3-point range (making 11 3s) to improve to 12-1 at home this season.  Iowa falls to 11-12 overall and 2-8 in Big Ten play.
 
Iowa trailed 48-34 at the half and fell behind by 16 points on a James Palmer, Jr., field goal to start the second half before the Hawkeyes fought back.  Iowa used a 20-6 run to close the gap to within two points at 56-54 with 14:32 remaining.
 
Sophomore Jordan Bohannon scored seven of the first nine points to get Iowa to within single digits, Luka Garza’s 3-pointer cut the deficit to four points, and Ahmad Wagner’s layup trimmed the lead to a field goal.
 
But Nebraska had an answer.
 
Palmer scored eight straight points, hitting back-to-back 3-pointers, including banking home a long triple, and Isaiah Roby’s 3-pointer pushed the lead to 13 points (67-54) with 12:36 to play.
 
The Hawkeyes never closed the gap to fewer than 11 points the rest of the way.
 
Iowa shot 50 percent from the field and made nine 3-pointers, but Nebraska had a distinct advantage at the free throw line.  The Huskers finished 27-of-36; Iowa was 9-of-14.
 
Bohannon and Cook led Iowa with 24 points apiece.  Bohannon was 8-of-15 from the field with six 3-pointers and seven assists. Cook posted a double-double, making 11-of-18 field goals and pulling down 10 rebounds.
 
Sophomore Cordell Pemsl was the third Hawkeye in double figures with 10 points.
 
Four Nebraska players reached double digits with Palmer, Jr., leading the way with 28 points. Isaac Copeland finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds.
 
IRON BOHANNON
Bohannon played all 40 minutes, finishing with seven assists without committing a turnover.  It was the first time this season he has played the entire game.  Bohannon played 41 minutes in the road overtime win at Illinois.
 
OF NOTE…

  • Bohannon has made five or more 3-pointers in six of Iowa’s last seven games.  The 24-point night was Bohannon’s fifth 20-point game of the season.
  • Cook’s double-double was his fourth of the season and six of his career.  Cook has posted a double-double in three of the last five games.
  • Nebraska out-rebounded Iowa, 37-28.
  • Iowa had a 42-28 advantage in points in the paint.
