Hawks Fall at Missouri

Dec. 30, 2003

Stats?|? Notes

Poor shooting and a lack of respect for the basketball resulted in a 75-65 loss for Coach Lisa Bluder’s squad Tuesday at Missouri.

The Hawkeyes shot just 30 percent from the field for the game, sinking just 21 of 71 attempts against the Tigers and only five of 16 three-point tries. Iowa also shot only 23 percent from the field during the first half when it fell behind 39-25.

Making matters worse for the visitors were 21 turnovers.

Iowa was led in scoring by Jamie Cavey’s game-high 20 points. Jennie Lillis chipped in 16 points and Tiffany Reedy a game-high 16 rebounds.

Cavey pulled Iowa to within nine at 52-43 when she dropped in a jumper with 12:30 left to play. However, any chance for a characteristic late-game rally by the Hawkeyes were dashed when Lillis fouled out with more than six minutes to play and when Cavey joined her on the sidelines with a little more than two minutes left.

The loss dropped Iowa’s record to 6-5. The Hawkeyes open their 2004 Big Ten season Thursday, Jan. 2, at home against Illinois.
