Iowa falls to 0-2 against ranked opponents this year (Penn State, 92-64 and Kansas State, 82-60). The Hawkeyes will play their second straight top ten ranked opponent Sunday when Iowa travels to No. 6 Minnesota.Penn State’s 92 points is the most ever scored against the Hawkeyes in the 25-game series. The previous high was 88 points scored in a Lady Lion win (88-64) in Iowa City on Jan. 31, 1999.Jennie Lillis finished with a season and team-high 21 points (6-12 FG, 11-13 FT), while Jamie Cavey contributed 13 points (5-14 FG, 3-5). Lillis’ 21 points gives her 1,506 for her career. She is the only Hawkeye to score in double figures in every game this year. Cavey tallied double figures for the tenth consecutive contest and the 13th time this season. Johanna Solverson registered a season-high 16 points on a perfect 6-6 shooting from the field and 1-1 from the charity stripe, marking the third time this season the sophomore scored double figures and the first time since the Iowa State contest (12/3/03).Jennie Lillis (13) and Jamie Cavey (11) combined for 24 of Iowa’s 26 first half points. Furthermore, the duo combined for Iowa’s first 17 points or the game, which encompassed 16 minutes. Johanna Solverson scored a lay-up at the 3:59 mark to score the Hawkeyes’ only other points of the half.After trailing by as many as 11 points in the half, Iowa shaved the Lady Lion lead to six (32-26) with 2:14 left. Penn State answered the Iowa charge by scoring the final eight points of the half and taking a 14-point lead (40-26) into halftime. The Lady Lions held Iowa’s second leading scorer, Kristi Faulkner, scoreless in the first stanza. The senior had only two shot attempts. Iowa forced only one Penn State turnover in the first half.Lillis (17), Cavey (14) and Solverson (10) scored 41 of Iowa’s first 43 points, which was the first 29:30 of action.Becca McCann made a career-high 2-2 from 3-point range. She has made four this year and seven in her career. The senior finished with eight points.Kristi Faulkner finished with a season-low two points (0-4 FG, 2-2 FT). Tonight marked the first contest this season that the senior failed to make at least one 3-pointer – a streak of 12 games.Iowa converted 5-13 (.385) three-pointers tonight. Iowa has made at least one three-pointer in 161 consecutive games. It is a streak that has occurred over a span of seven seasons. The last time the Hawkeyes did not make a three-pointer was against Purdue in the Big Ten Tournament, March 1, 1998.Senior Jennie Lillis posted career highs in both free throws made (11) and attempted (13) tonight. She has attempted at least one free throw in 101-of-106 games she has played during her four-year career. The two-time all-Big Ten performer has converted 369-495 (.745) free throws in her career. She is the school record holder for free throws attempted (495) and is 22 free throws made from breaking the school record, which is held by Amy Herrig (390).Jennie Lillis was 0-2 from beyond the arc tonight. She has attempted at least one triple in Iowa’s last six games.Penn State improves its all-time series lead over Iowa to 14-11 and 9-2 in games played in University Park, PA. Iowa has lost its last two contests at Penn State.
