The 12th-ranked Iowa GymHawks lost their home opener to #6 Iowa State, 196.95 – 196.725. Iowa performed strongly on all events, scoring at least 49 points on each event, including a school record-breaking score of 49.55 on the floor.
Seniors Alexis Maday and Stephanie Gran turned in outstanding performances to lead the GymHawks. Maday won the bars (9.9), floor (9.975) and the all-around (39.65), while tying career records on floor and all-around. Gran tied for first on vault (9.95) and finished second on beam (9.875), floor (9.95) and all-around (39.6). Gran tied her career record on floor and set a new career record in the all-around.
Other top finishers for Iowa include freshman Beth Dilick tying for second on the bars (9.85) and Liz Grajewski tying for third on the floor (9.9).
The GymHawks will compete next at home against Michigan on Saturday, January 24 beginning at 2 p.m.
