Iowa to Host Marquette

This Week: The Iowa women’s tennis team hosts the Marquette Golden Eagles Saturday. Competition is set to begin at 11 a.m. in the UI Recreation Building.

The Golden Eagles: The Golden Eagles are 2-2. Marquette has victories over Northern Illinois and Illinois-Chicago. Their losses came against Illinois and North Carolina. The Golden Eagles have four seniors on their roster, including their No. 1 player, Veronica Garcia Briseno.

Newsworthy Against Drake: The Hawkeyes dominated the competition in beating Drake (7-0). Iowa won the doubles point, downing the Bulldogs in every match. Meg Racette won the No. 1 dual, improving her record to 10-1.

In the Rankings: The Hawkeyes are 66th in the ITA Rankings. The rankings are voted on by every member of the ITA Regional Committee.

Quoting Coach Wardlaw: “I’m pleased with our play so early in the season. If history is a good indicator, we’ll have another tough fight. Our last few Marquette matches have been 4-3.”
