PARRISH, FL – The University of Iowa women’s golf team shot a 36-hole total of 628 in the first day of the Central District Regional. Louisiana State led after the first two rounds by three strokes. The Tigers shot a 17 over 593.
Leading the way for the Hawkeyes, tied for 28th place, was junior Shannon Fleming. Fleming fired a two-round total of 154. Junior Liz Bennett shot a 156, which was good enough to place her tied for 35th. Freshman Karla Murra finished tied for 40th with a score of 157. Senior Laura Holmes posted a score of 161 to place her tied for 51st. Freshman Virginie Bonfils rounded off the Hawkeyes’ performance with a 71st place score of 175.
Indivdually the tournament is being led by Wisconsin’s Malinda Johnson. Johnson fired a score of 144. TCU’s Camille Blackerby and Kansas State’s Sarah Heffel are just one stroke back of Johnson tied for second place.
