Jennie Lillis’ diary of the Hawkeyes’ summer Italy trip

hawkeyesports.com visited recently with senior forward Jennie Lillis from Urbandale, IA. Here’s a piece of that conversation.

If you could replace a movie star in a movie (past or present) who would you be?
“I would like to be Greg Kinnear in the movie Stuck on You, so I could be stuck to Matt Damon – who wouldn’t want to be stuck to Matt Damon.”

What is your most embarrassing moment on the court?
“I have had a lot of embarrassing moments on the court. I have done it all. And I have done it all more than once. To pick one embarrassing moment would be an injustice.”

Will Feb. 22 be a bittersweet day for you, knowing it will be your 22nd birthday, but also your last game in Carver-Hawkeye Arena?
“Time really flies! My birthday my freshman year was also on senior night – it is crazy how things work out! I am excited though, what better way to spend your birthday than a basketball game (better than practice)!!!”

If you could play 1-on-1 with any player past or present, who would it be and why? Would you win?
“Coach Morgan, because I do it everyday. Let’s just say we don’t keep track of who wins more.”

“I believe that ‘Once you are a Hawkeye, you are always a Hawkeye’! My brother-in-law has a shirt that says that. I may not be in uniform, but I will always be a Hawkeye!”

If you had three wishes, what would you wish for?
“To have my brother’s basketball vision, to have Tiff’s calves, and to be as pretty as Jamie says she is. (Actually I would really wish for Peace, Love, and Happiness for all!)”

If you had to pick a song to win a karaoke contest: which one would it be and why?
“I Got U Babe by Sonny and Cher – this needs no explanation!”

What is the thing that you will miss most about being a Hawkeye?
“I believe that ‘Once you are a Hawkeye, you are always a Hawkeye’! My brother-in-law has a shirt that says that. I may not be in uniform, but I will always be a Hawkeye!”

Do you have any aspirations to play or coach following graduation?
“I would love to coach! As for playing we will see when this season is over.”

If you could be a contestant on any game show (past or present), which would it be and why?
“Family Feud, because my family is very competitive, but we have the most fun together. My mom and my sister could yell answers louder than anyone else, and my dad knows everything!”

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
“The Midwest. I love to travel, but the people of the Midwest are very hard to beat. I love Iowa – being from here, and staying here.”

What are your thoughts regarding the incredible comeback at Wisconsin on Feb. 12?
“To be down by eight with 30 seconds, and to get to overtime – WOW! I have been a part of some amazing comebacks, but that was probably the most amazing ever! It was a team effort and belief – because no one else thought we could pull it off!”

Jennie Lillis and her Iowa Hawkeye teammates travel to No. 4 Purdue Thursday, February 26, at 6:05 p.m. (CST).
