No. 7 Hawkeyes defeat No. 9 Gophers

The seventh-ranked Iowa men’s gymnastics team defeated ninth-ranked Minnesota, 215.6- 212.7, Saturday evening at the Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis, MN. The Hawkeyes won four event titles and crowned three event champions.

Sophomore Michael Reavis (Tallahassee, FL) took second place in the all-around, posting a six-event score of 52.275. Sophomore Michael McNamara (Orem, UT) took third in the all-around with a score of 51.85.

The Hawkeyes defeated Minnesota on floor exercise 36.725- 35.825, placing four gymnasts in the top five. Junior Shawn Stone (Wall Lake, IA) placed second with a score of 9.250, while senior Mike Kelly (Orangevale, CA) took third (9.2). Reavis and McNamara placed fourth (9.15) and fifth (9.125), respectively.

Senior Eric Block (Buffalo Grove, IL) was crowned event champion on pommel horse with a score of 9.375. Following closely behind was Kelly, who took second with a score of 9.35.

On rings, junior Kenny Lin (Sparks, NV) finished in a tie for first place, posting a score of 9.35. Sophomore Jacques Bouchard (Rio Rancho, NM) took third place for the Hawkeyes (9.05), while senior Matt Metzger (Cincinnati, OH) placed fourth (8.9).

Reavis was the Hawkeye’s top performer on vault, placing second with a score of 9.325. Kelly and McNamara finished in a tie for fourth (9.225).

Junior Linas Gaveika (Vilnius, Lithuania) was crowned event champion on horizontal bar (9.625) and finished in a tie for second on parallel bars (8.9). Block took fourth on parallel bars (8.8), while sophomore Bryan Bourland (Lubbock, TX) finished third on horizontal bar (8.9).

The Hawkeyes will host No. 6 Michigan and Wisconsin Saturday, March 6. The meet will be held at the Iowa Field house and is set to begin at 7 p.m.
