Columbia, MO – The University of Iowa women’s soccer team was defeated by Baylor 2-1 at the first day of the Nike Tiger Invitational, hosted by the University of Missouri. Senior Kitty Montgomery scored the lone goal for the Hawkeyes. Baylor opened up their scoring account in the 41st minute when Missy McConnell knocked in a goal off a pass from Katie Chicoine. Iowa scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute when Kitty Montgomery headed the ball into the back of the net off a free kick from freshman Kim Lewis. Anna Schuch scored the game-winning goal only 56 seconds later off a cross from Ginny Rosario-Tull. Senior Britta Vogele recorded 12 saves, but Baylor had a 20-6 edge on shots. The Hawkeyes will continue competition at the Nike Tiger Invitational on Sunday against host Missouri. Competition is scheduled for a 1:30 p.m. start at the Audrey J. Walton Track-Soccer Field Stadium.
