Hawkeyes Lose Close Match To Purdue, 1-0

IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa women’s soccer team opened up the Big Ten season with a loss to Purdue on Friday, 1-0. The Hawkeyes rifled 13 shots including six shots on goal.

The game remained scoreless until the 64th minute when Purdue’s Kristin Lichtenberg converted on a corner kick from Kim Comisar to put the Boilerkamers ahead, 1-0 and that’s the way the game would end. For Iowa, freshman Jamie Maltman recorded four shots, three of which were on goal. Sophomore Danielle Oswald recorded two shots on goal and Avery Bang fired one on target. Purdue recorded 24 shots but only seven were directed on goal. Britta Vogele recorded five saves in the loss.

The Hawkeyes continue Big Ten play on Sunday against the Indiana Hoosiers. Match time is set for a 1 p.m. central time start in Bloomington. Fans of Iowa soccer can listen to the game live on an internet broadcast at www.wius.org
