Hawkeyes Tally Four More Victories at Louisville Invite

In the second day of competition at the Louisville Invitational, the Hawkeyes tallied four more victories, improving their overall record in both singles and doubles competition to 15-12.

The Hawkeyes were paced by doubles duos Chaitu Malempati and Bart van Monsjou and Scott Elwell and J.P. Ritchie. Malempati and van Monsjou teamed up to defeat Southern Illinois’ Alexandru Nomicos and Lukasz Soswa 8-2. They will face Adam Storti and Peter Taylor of Morehead State in the semifinals. Elwell and Ritchie will take on Michael Huele and James Brannon of Ball State in the semifinals after defeating Morehead State’s Daniel Pez and Louis Orieux 8-6.

In singles action, Van Monsjou was victorious over his quarterfinal opponent, Jan Polhamus of Ball State (6-3, 6-2), but could not advance past the semis, falling to Illinois’ Andrew Eklov (6-2, 1-6, 6-4). In the consolation bracket, Brett Taylor defeated Jamison Downs of Dayton (8-5), but fell to Bradley’s Ivor Miskulin 8-5 in the semis.

Malempati/van Monsjou and Elwell/Ritchie will compete in the Louisville Invitational doubles semifinals tomorrow, October 10th, at 9 a.m.
