A Classic

Jan. 5, 2005

Just as some of the Hawkeyes had hoped, ESPN today officially declared Iowa’s stirring New Year’s Day victory over LSU in the 2005 Capital One Bowl an “ESPN Classic.”

Iowa’s 10th win of the 2004 season will be broadcast in its entirety Friday beginning at 7 p.m. (Iowa time). The broadcast is one of ESPN’s “Triple Instant Classics” feature that kicks off at 5 p.m. with the Boise State and Louisville in the 2004 AutoZone Liberty Bowl and ends with Texas’ victory over Michigan in the 2005 Rose Bowl presented by Citi.

The news of the Capital One Bowl’s “Classic” status comes the same day as Iowa learned it had landed in the Top 10 of the final national polls for the 2004 season. The Hawkeyes were No. 8 in both the Associated Press and the ESPN/USA Today elite lists.
