The Iowa men’s and women’s teams competed today in Minneapolis in the Minnesota Gold Country Classic. Competing alongside the Hawkeyes and Gophers were athletes from Minnesota State-Mankato, Marquette, University of Minnesota-Duluth, University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse, Lakehead University, and University of Manitoba.
Four Iowa women were champions in the Classic and 15 set new personal collegiate records. Sophomore standout Peaches Roach was one of these with a high jump of 6-0½, which also provisionally qualifies her for the NCAA Indoor Championships. The men’s team had five champions at the meet and 13 set new collegiate marks. Senior Andy Banse won the shot put with a throw of 58-5¾ which provisionally qualifies him for the NCAA Indoor Championships. Junior Adam Hamilton and senior Chris Voller provisionally qualified in the weight throw with tosses of 63-4¼ and 62-10¾, respectively.
The men’s team will compete in the UNI Open in Cedar Falls next Saturday. The women’s team will be in the Panther Classic at UNI on Friday and then will compete in the Illini Invitational in Champaign on Saturday.
