The University of Iowa women’s tennis team host the Drake Bulldogs and Denver Pioneers this weekend. The Hawkeyes compete against Drake Friday night at 6 p.m., with the Denver match occurring Sunday at 10 a.m. Competition will take place at Clark Racquet Center at Coe College in Cedar Rapids. Admission is free.
The Drake Bulldogs
The Bulldogs consist of three seniors, one junior, one sophomore and two freshmen. Senior Zorana Stefanovic is the top Drake player. Stefanovic posted a 10-3 singles record and 9-3 doubles mark in the fall.
Iowa Versus Drake
The Hawkeyes lead the series, 27-5, against the Bulldogs. Last season, Iowa swept Drake, 7-0.
The Denver Pioneers
The Pioneers are ranked 45th in the nation. They have a veteran team of three seniors, two juniors and three sophomores.
Senior Yankick Dullens is ranked 98th in the nation. Dullens and junior Suzana Maksovic are ranked 30th in doubles.
Iowa Versus Denver
This is the first meeting between Iowa and Denver.
Noteworthy at Hawkeye Invitational
Iowa won 17 of 18 matches at the Hawkeye Invitational. The Hawkeyes swept Iowa State, while only losing one singles match to Northern Illinois.
Hawkeyes In the Rankings
In the ITA poll, the Hawkeyes are ranked 43rd in the nation. Meg Racette is ranked at 103rd. Racette and Hillary Mintz, are ranked 55th in doubles.

“Drake and Denver will both be big challenges for us. Denver is ranked two below us at No. 45 nationally and will be our first big out-of-conference challenge. If our team performs near their potential, I like our chances of going 2-0. We are really going to have to play well for that to happen.”
