IOWA CITY – University of Iowa field hockey Head Coach Tracey Griesbaum announced the signing of eight student-athletes to National Letters of Intent today. Lindsey Duffy, Roslynn Ellis, Megan Heise, Melissa Helsel, Caitlin McCurdy, Lissa Munley, Katie Naughton and Lauren Pfeiffer will all join the Hawkeyes this fall.
“This has been a banner year for Iowa Field Hockey recruiting,” Griesbaum said. “We are extremely excited to have this highly talented class join the Iowa Field Hockey Program. Their athletic ability, work-ethic, and overall talent will be utilized immediately. They represent five different states in two different countries, and they cover every position on the field from the forward line to goalkeeping. Their contributions will not only be felt on the playing field but also in the classroom. They possess excellent academic skills and a strong desire to excel in the classroom. We are proud to have them be a part of our Hawkeye Family”
Duffy, a forward from San Diego, CA, was a second team all-California Interscholastic Federation member and a first team all-Western League honoree as a senior. She was a second team all-Western League pick as a junior. Duffy helped her Scripps Ranch High School team to three Western League titles and was the team’s leading scorer as a senior.
Ellis, a midfielder/defender from Lewisburg, PA, was the Daily Item Player of the Year as a senior, and was a two-time first team all-conference selection. Ellis recorded 16 goals and 17 assists her senior year and was named team MVP. She also participated in the 2004 B Camp.
Heise, a goalkeeper from Chilliwack, British Columbia, is a two-time MVP who posted a 0.96 goals against average as a senior. She led her Sardis Secondary School to three-straight regional championship games, winning two titles. Heise was also a member of Team British Columbia, which won the 2003 Under-16 and 2004 Under-19 Canadian National Championship.
Helsel, a goalkeeper from Elizabethtown, PA, had a career record of 38-14-5 with 19 shutouts. As a senior she was a second team Lancaster-Lebanon League All-Star and Academic All-State selection. She was also a second team Lancaster-Lebanon League All-Star as a sophomore. Played for the Lanco Premier club team which won the 2003 Delaware Diamond State Games and was a 2003 USFHA National Festival Pool Winner.
McCurdy, a midfielder/forward from Mountain Top, PA, is a two-time first team all-American, regional all-American and all-state selection. She helped lead her Crestwood High School team to back-to-back Class AA State Championships, including a 26-0 season as a senior. McCurdy was a member of the 2004 United States Under-19 and Under-21 teams.
Munley, a goalkeeper from Mountain Top, PA, is a two-time first team all-state and Wyoming Valley Conference All-Star. She was also a Mideast Regional All-American as a junior. She helped lead her Crestwood High School team to back-to-back Class AA State Championships, including a 26-0 season as a senior. Munley posted a career record of 65-9 with a .851 save percentage, .547 goals against average and 46 shutouts. She participated in the 2003 USFHA B Camp.
Naughton, a forward from Goffstown, NH, is a two-time first team all-state selection and was a regional all-American as a senior. She led her Goffstown Area High School in assists three-consecutive years, while helping them to two state runner-up finishes. Naughton was a member of the 2003 United States Under-16 team, which played in the Netherlands and Australia.
Pfieffer, a midfielder from Mt. Laurel, NJ, is a three-time all-state, all-South Jersey and Olympic Conference selection. As a senior, she was named NFHCA Regional All-American and Academic All-American. In 2004 she set the school record for goals (23) and assists (21). Phieffer is very active in the United States National Program as she was selected to the 2004 FDIC camp and B Camp and won a gold medal in the 2004 Canadian-American Challenge.
