The Albuquerque Convention and Visitors Bureau announced today that Iowa women’s basketball senior center Jamie Cavey is one of 36 female student-athletes named to the Collegiate Basketball Award of Excellence `Watch List’.
The award honors college seniors for their athletic and academic achievement as well as their community involvement. The nominees will be narrowed down to 10 semi-finalists on March 1. Three finalists will then be named during the NCAA tournament and will be presented in Albuquerque on April 12, at an awards dinner.
Cavey is the only Big Ten student-athlete named to the `Watch List’. The native of Mechanicsville, ranks sixth in Big Ten scoring (16.4), third in field goal percentage (.577), fourth in blocked shots (1.83) and 11th in rebounding (6.3).
Iowa (16-7, 5-7) hosts No. 9 Michigan State (22-3, 11-1) Thursday in Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Tip-off is slated for 7:05 p.m.
