The University of Iowa women’s gymnastics team travels to Minnesota Saturday. Competition will take place at the Sports Pavilion at 7 p.m.

The Minnesota Golden Gophers

The Golden Gophers are ranked 19th with a 5-7 record. Minnesota is 14th on vault, 17th on floor, and tied for 21st on beam.

Last weekend, they scored a season-high 195.625 against Denver. Top individuals for Minnesota are Laura Johnson, Ashley Stanton, Carolyn Yernberg and Maria Opsahl.

The Iowa – Minnesota Series

Minnesota leads the series, 40-15. Last season, Iowa beat the Golden Gophers 196.025-195.75.

In the Rankings

Iowa is ranked 17th on bars. The GymHawks have a regional qualifying average of 48.42.

Top Performances Against Iowa State

The GymHawks scored a season-high 194.15, including a season-high 48.95 on bars, last Saturday against Iowa State. Natalie Padilla tied for third on bars and finished fourth on vault. Romina Mazzoni tied for third on bars as well. Annie Rue and Kortny Williamson tied for fifth on vault with 9.725s. On beam, Rue and Katie Burke tied for fifth. Williamson and Liz Grajewski tied for fourth on floor. Rue was the GymHawks’ top all-arounder, taking fifth with a 38.875.

Head Coach Larissa Libby

Larissa Libby is in her first season as head coach of the GymHawks. Last season, Libby served as associate head coach after three years as an assistant. Libby has already made a lasting impact on the GymHawks as the team’s choreographer and beam coach. The top 10 school beam performances have all been under her guidance, including the school record of 49.425. Libby coached four gymnasts to score a 9.9 or higher on beam in 2004. She also guided sophomore Danielle Legeai to tie for second on beam at NCAA regionals last season.
