Hawkeyes in Tenth After Day One

MINNEAPOLIS, MN – The University of Iowa men’s swimming team finished the first day of competition at the 2005 Big Ten Championships in 10th place with a score of 36. The host team Minnesota leads the competition with a score of 217.

Three Hawkeyes advanced to the finals in the first day of competition. Junior Cameron Dye advanced in the 500 freestyle in a preliminary time of 4:32.04. His time was good enough for a career best as well as a team best on the season. Dye finished 22nd in the finals. Junior Trevor Haley placed 23rd in the 200 IM in a season best time of 1:52.04. Senior Alex Boyce swam to 24th in the 50 freestyle in a season best time of 20.66. Iowa’s 200 freestyle and 400 medley relay teams also had strong performances. Both relays finished ninth and posted season best times for the team.
