Hawkeyes Add Nine Recruits To Squad

IOWA CITY – University of Iowa head soccer coach Carla Baker has announced the incoming class of nine student-athletes who will attend the University of Iowa in the fall of 2005. The recruits include Amanda Bartlett, Erin MacIsaac, Manon Englehardt, Stephanie Hyink, Jackie Kaeding, Kelsey Shaw, Katie Shumaker, Katherine Smeltzer and Kelly Warner.

“We are very proud of this incoming class,” Baker said. “The staff did an excellent job identifying and attracting this talent to Iowa City. The enthusiasm they will bring to the Iowa soccer program is exciting. They truly personify the Hawkeye black and gold. Each student-athlete brings a different level of experience and talent to the team. Through the team’s hard work and focus this semester and the girls’ talent coming in, the standards for Iowa Soccer have been raised! We’d like to welcome Amanda, Erin, Manon, Stephanie, Jackie, Kelsey, Katie, Kathryn and Kelly to the Hawkeye family.”

Bartlett, a Ft. Collins, CO native, is a two year letter winner for Poudre High School. She has been a member of the Arsenal Gold soccer team for six years, which is the highest ranking club team in Fort Collins. She is club teammates with Katherine Smeltzer.

MacIsaac is from Bothell, WA where she is a three-time letter winner for Bothell High School. She has been named conference goalkeeper of the year the previous two years and all-area MVP. MacIsaac is a Seattle Times all-area goalkeeper and led her team to conference and divisional championships in 2004. MacIsaac is a member of the FC Royals club team that has won numerous cup tournament championships. MacIsaac’s ODP team won the 2004 regional championship.

Englehardt is from Derby, KS where she is a two-time first team all-state and all-conference selection. She led her high school team to its first conference championship in school history and was voted the team’s best offensive player the past two years. Englehart has 58 goals in three years and was the second leading scorer in the 6A region during the 2003 season. She is a member of the Botafogo Football Club.

Hyink, a Temecula, CA native, is a three-time first team all-Southwestern League selection. She led her club team, the So Cal Blues, to the Southern California State Cup championship in 2003 and regional semifinal berths in 2002-03. Her club team was a Nike Summer Classic finalist in 2000. She is club teammates with Kelly Warner and plays in the same club as Kelsey Shaw.

Kaeding, a Coralville, IA native, is a two-time all-conference and all-state selection. She was named to the Elite All-State team in 2003. Her high school, Iowa City West, won the state championship in 2004 and she was named to the all-tournament team. She is the sister of former Hawkeye All-American kicker, Nate Kaeding.

Shaw is from Chino Hills, CA and a two-time all-Sierra League selection. She was voted team captain in 2004-05 and team most valuable offensive player in 2002-04. Shaw has been playing club soccer for the So Cal Blues since age 12. Her team most recently won the Surf Cup tournament in 2002 and 2004. She has been a member of the California ODP team since 2001. She plays in the same club as Kelly Warner and Stephanie Hyink.

Shumaker, a Whitefish Bay, WI native, is a first team all-state and all-conference selection. She led her high school team to conference championships in 2002-04 and state semifinal berths in 2002-03. Her club team, FC Milwaukee, won the Wisconsin State Cup the previous four years.

Smeltzer is from Ft. Collins, CO and is a three-year starter and letter winner at her high school. She has led her high school team to back-to-back state quarterfinal appearances and is a first team all-conference selection. During the summer of 2004, Smeltzer joined the Fort Collins Force women’s league franchise and became the youngest player in the team’s history. She is also a member of the Ft. Collins Arsenal Gold club. She is club teammates with Amanda Bartlett.

Warner is from Mission Viejo, CA and a member of the California ODP team since 2000. She helped lead the team to regional championships in 2001 and 2002. Her club teams have won numerous cup and league championships, including the 2004 Cal South Premier League Cup and the 2004 Las Vegas Showcase championship. She is club teammates with Stephanie Hyink and plays in the same club as Kelsey Shaw.
