ANN ARBOR, MI – Today, the University of Iowa women’s track and field team competed in the first day of the 2005 Big Ten Indoor Championships. Last year, the Hawkeyes placed third in the meet (89 points) and Penn State won the team trophy with 115 points.

Though the Hawkeyes didn’t score gold in any events today, six competitors did set collegiate bests. Highlights for tomorrow include the high jump where Peaches Roach will defend her crown. This year, the sophomore standout has already qualified for the NCAA Championships with a jump of 6-0.75, which is also a new Iowa record.

The Hawkeye women will compete in Ames, Iowa, next weekend in a NCAA Qualifying Last Chance Meet.
