The 58th-ranked University of Iowa women’s tennis team (4-3) hosts Minnesota and Kansas this weekend. The Hawkeyes will take on the Golden Gophers Friday at 6 p.m., with the Kansas match Sunday at 10 a.m. Competition will take place at Clark Racquet Center at Coe College in Cedar Rapids. Admission is free.
The Minnesota Golden Gophers
Minnesota is ranked 69th with a 4-3 record. The Golden Gophers have defeated Denver, Boston College, Cincinnati and Eastern Michigan. Losses have come against Kentucky, North Carolina and Missouri.
Nischela Reddy is ranked 74th with a 6-1 record at the No. 1 position. She has wins over No. 41 Aniela Mojzis of North Carolina and No. 53 Sarah Foster of Kentucky.
Iowa Versus Minnesota
Minnesota leads the series, 30-15. Last year, Iowa defeated the Golden Gophers in the dual season, 4-3. In the Big Ten Championships, the Hawkeyes won again, 4-0.
The Kansas Jayhawks
The Jayhawks are 1-7 with a win against Illinois State and losses against Utah, Yale, Penn State, Texas, Mississippi, Mississippi State, and BYU. Freshman Elizaveta Avdeeva is the top Kansas player.
Iowa Versus Kansas
Kansas has a slight lead in the series, 6-5. Iowa defeated the Jayhawks last season at Kansas, 6-1.
Last Weekend Notes
Iowa fell to No. 20 Notre Dame, 7-0. The duo of Hilary Tyler and Anastasia Zhukova won at the No. 2 spot for the lone Hawkeye victory. Meg Racette gave No. 32 Catrina Thompson a challenge before finally falling in a tiebreaker, 6-7 (6), 7-5, 1-0 (6).
Hawkeyes In the Rankings
In the ITA poll, the Hawkeyes are ranked 58th nationally. Hillary Mintz is ranked 78th. Meg Racette and Mintz are 59th in doubles.
