RIO VERDE, AZ –
The University of Iowa women’s golf team is in 13th place after day one of the three-day, 54-hole East/West Rio Verde Invitational in Rio Verde, AZ.
The Hawkeyes are led by senior Liz Bennett, who is just two shots off the lead after firing an opening round 73 (+2). Bennett is tied for third behind co-leaders Amber Churchill of Marshall and Megan Hanson of Southwest Missouri State. Sophomore Amy Riepma is tied for 17th place after an opening round 77 (+6).
Michigan leads the team race after day one with a 303 (+19). Big Ten foe Minnesota is in second, shooting a 307 (+23).
Competition will continue tomorrow with a shotgun start at 2 p.m.
