Match Time!

March 5, 2005

Coach Jim Zalesky’s nationally ranked Iowa wrestling team opens its run at a 32nd Big Ten Conference championship today in first round action of the league’s 2005 tournament. Session I begins at 11 a.m. in Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Eight of Iowa’s 10 entries are seeded. Iowa does not have a single No. 1 seed. Ty Eustice at 149 pounds and Mark Perry at 165 are the highest seeded Hawkeyes at No. 2.

“You can’t worry about seeds. All you have to worry about is the guy on that mat with you,” Zalesky said during his visit with the media on Friday.

“It would be nice to have some number one seeds, but we aren’t worrying about that anymore. We are focused on wrestling one match at a time.”

Fans of the Hawkeyes who have subscribed to access the content in the multimedia area of hawkeyesports.com will have access to post-match interviews and post-session video highlights. That content will be posted shortly after the conclusion of each session.
