THIS WEEK — The Iowa women’s track team qualified two competitors for the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championships Friday and Saturday in Fayetteville, AR. Hawkeye sophomore Peaches Roach and freshman Kineke Alexander will represent the Hawkeyes at the national meet. All events will be held at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track on the University of Arkansas campus.

NCAA QUALIFIERS — Roach will compete in the high jump and Alexander in the 400 meters. Following is a list of their events, qualifying marks, their national rank and when they are scheduled to compete at the NCAA meet. All times are Central.

ROACH AT THE NCAA’S — Hawkeye sophomore Peaches Roach is no stranger to the NCAA Championships. The Kingston, Jamaica native, competed ni the high jump at both the indoor and outdoor national meets last season. She tied for 15th at the indoor meet with a mark of 5-8, and tied for ninth at the outdoor meet with a jump of 5-11 1/4. She will be trying for her first all-America honor this season. If she reaches that goal, Roach will be the first Hawkeye field event competitior to earn the honor since Lisa Van Steenwyk in the shot put in 1992, and the first Hawkeye high jumper since Mary Mol in 1983.

2005 BIG TEN INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS REVIEW — The Iowa women’s team placed ninth with 39 points at the Big Ten Indoor Championships. Roach defended her conference high jump title, winning the event with a jump of 5-10 3/4. She also placed fourth in the 60 meters with a season-best 7.45. Alexander placed second in the 400 meters (54.31) and senior Kamesha Marshall placed third in the shot put (49-2 1/4).

NEXT COMPETITION — The women’s team will open the 2005 outdoor season March 18-19 at the Shamrock Invitational in Conway, SC. The meet will be hosted by Coastal Carolina University. The men’s team is idle that week.
