The 49th-ranked University of Iowa women’s tennis team (12-7 overall, 6-2 Big Ten) closes its dual season this weekend at Illinois and Purdue. The Hawkeyes match up against the Fighting Illini Saturday at noon, while taking on the Boilermakers Sunday at 11 a.m.
The Illinois Fighting Illini
The Fighting Illini are ranked 50th with an 11-9 overall, 5-3 Big Ten record. Illinois has Big Ten victories over Wisconsin, Michigan State, Ohio State, Purdue and Penn State. The Fighting Illini have losses against Northwestern, Michigan and Indiana. Cynthya Goulet is ranked 34th in singles, and teams with Emily Wang as the 54th-ranked doubles team in the nation.
The Purdue Boilermakers
The Boilermakers are 52nd in the nation with a 7-12 overall, 4-4 Big Ten mark. Purdue has Big Ten wins over Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State and Penn State, while falling to Northwestern, Wisconsin, Indiana and Illinois. Hala Sufi is ranked 75th in singles.

Meg Racette competed against Purdue and Illinois players at Midwest Regionals last fall. Racette defeated Amy Walgenbuch of Purdue and Emily Wang of Illinois.
Tyler and Zhukova Double Trouble
Hilary Tyler and Anastasia Zhukova are 14-1 in doubles. They have 13 wins at the No. 2 spot, including victories over Notre Dame, Baylor, TCU, Indiana and Wisconsin.
Last Weekend Notes
The Hawkeyes won against Penn State and Indiana. Iowa defeated Penn State, 6-1, and 37th-ranked Indiana, 7-0.
Hawks Near Top of Big Ten
Iowa is currently tied for second in the Big Ten with Indiana. Both teams have a 6-2 record. Northwestern is first with a 9-0 record.
Veselinovic Closes in on Freshman Record
Milica Veselinovic is only two singles wins away from tying the Iowa record for most wins by a freshman. The record is currently held by Hillary Mintz, who recorded 28 last season.
