The University of Iowa men’s track and field team finished competition today in the 2005 Big Ten Outdoor Championships. Though the Hawks didn’t take first in the overall team standings, they did improve two places over their finish last year. Iowa came in 8th place with 53 points while Wisconsin won their second consecutive championship.

Seniors Andy Banse and Bill Neumann each picked up bronze medals in their respective throwing events. Banse tossed the shot put 60-10 and Neumann threw the javelin 205-3 feet. Neumann also qualified for the NCAA Regional meet in the javelin with the toss.

Two Hawkeyes also set new collegiate bests during today’s competition. Freshmen Kale Katt and Ryan Niver each set new high marks in the javelin.

Iowa next competes in the NCAA Regional Meet in Norman, OK, on May 27-28.
