June 13, 2005

IOWA CITY, IA – Iowa women’s track Head Coach James Grant has announced the addition of another recruit to the Hawkeye program for the 2005-06 school year. Distance runner Krista Anderson of Leeds, ND, will join sprinters Jodyann Powell and Annabella Reid who committed in the winter.

Anderson was the 2005 Gatorade Track and Field Athlete of the Year for the state of North Dakota and a Wendy’s High School Heisman finalist. She holds the state record in the 3,200 meters, winning five straight state titles in that event. Anderson placed second in the 3,200 meters with a time of 10:32.14 at the 2005 Nike Indoor National meet. Her other best times are 4:56.98 in the 1,600 meters and 14:01 in cross country 4,000 meters. The salutatorian of her high school class, Anderson will also run cross country for the Hawkeyes.

“The addition of Krista to our program comes on the heels of last year’s great recruiting class, and provides us with another national-class student-athlete,” said Grant.

Powell, from Mandeville, Jamaica, will join the team as a sophomore. Her personal bests include 11.52 in the 100 meters and 24.20 in the 200 meters.

Reid is also a Jamacian native, but is enrolled at Whitefish Bay High School in Milwaukee, WI, this year and will join the Hawkeyes as a freshman. Her best 400-meter time is 53.56. She will also run the 200 meters at Iowa.
