HUNTERSVILLE, NC – University of Iowa senior Nancilea Underwood continued her national diving success by winning the three-meter synchro title with Stanford junior Cassidy Krug at the 2005 Speedo National Diving Championships Thursday in Huntersville, NC. It was the first career title for both divers. All competition is being held at the Huntersville Family Fitness and Aquatics Center.
Underwood also placed fourth on the one-meter springboard on Thursday, and advanced to Saturday’s three-meter springboard finals with her runner-up performance in Wednesday’s semifinals.
It has been a busy and successful summer for Underwood, who has been training with Krug at USA Diving’s national training center in Indianapolis, IN. The duo placed third on three-meter synchro in May at the Speedo/FINA Diving Grand Prix in Fort Lauderdale, FL. In June, Underwood was one of two Americans invited to the FINA Grand Prix Superfinal in Veracruz, Mexico. In July, she earned a berth on the United States’ 2005 World Championships team. She placed 11th on three-meter at that event in Montreal last month.
