The USA men’s basketball team advanced to the semi-finals of the World University games with an 88-68 win over Australia in the quarter-finals Thursday. The United States will face Russia Friday, with the championship game set for Sunday.
Iowa forward Greg Brunner again played a key role for the USA, collecting five points and seven rebounds. Brunner was 2-2 from the field and added an assist in the win as the USA held a 36-25 rebounding advantage in improving to 6-0. Brunner has totaled 21 points, 38 rebounds and three steals in the six games.
Three USA players scored in double figures in the win over Australia, with Randy Foye of Villanova scoring 18 and Minnesota’s Vincent Grier adding 10 points. Duke’s Sheldon Williams added 12 rebounds.
