LAWRENCE, KS – The University of Iowa men and women’s swimming and diving teams traveled to Kansas on Friday night, where the men faced the Missouri State Bears and the women took on both Missouri State and the Kansas Jayhawks in the Robinson Natatorium. The men fell to the Bears 85.5 to 54.5, the women defeated Missouri State 97-43 but fell to Kansas 175.5-120.5. The men’s record now stands at 1-3 (0-2 Big Ten), while the women are 2-3 (0-2 Big Ten).
Senior Kelly Werner led the women’s team with a pair of first place finishes and one second place. Werner won the 100 and 200 yard backstrokes with times of 57.18 and 2:03.23 respectively and finished runner-up in the 100 yard butterfly (57.41). Senior Katie Martin finished first in the 50 yard freestyle (24.43) and second in the 100 yard freestyle (52.24). Senior diver Nancilea Underwood took top honors in both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives with scores of 294.80 and 311.70.
Freshman Nick Divan took top honors in the 1,650 yard freestyle (15:55.13) and the 500 yard freestyle (4:39.00). Sophomore Dragos Agache took first in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 56.82 and second in the 200 yard breaststroke, finishing in 2:05.06. Senior Cameron Dye finished second in the 200 yard freestyle (1:16.27) and the 100 yard freestyle (49.06), along with a fourth in the 500 yard freestyle (4:50.16). Freshman Drew DeLashmutt captured first in 1-meter diving with 250.30 and third in 3-meter with 243.20. Fellow freshman diver Adam Walker took first in the 3-meter with 250.30 and third in the 1-meter with 230.45.
The Hawkeyes will next compete on Friday, November 11, when they travel to Truman State. The co-ed meet is scheduled for 6 p.m. in the natatorium in Kirksville, Missouri.
