Hawkeyes Compete In Big Ten Indoor Tournament

EAST LANSING, MI – The University of Iowa men’s tennis team competed today in the opening rounds of the Big Ten Indoor Singles Tournament. Two Hawkeyes competed in the qualifying draw and one advanced.

Freshman Greg Holm defeated Torgrimson of Minnesota in first round of the qualifying draw, 6-3, 6-4. In the second round, he was defeated by Sherman of Penn State, 6-2, 6-4.

Freshman Zach Frisch, the eighth seed, also competed in qualifying draw matches. In the first round, Frisch had a bye. In the second round, he defeated Altepeter of Minnesota, 7-6 (4), 3-6, 7-6 (3). Frisch will face Evstratenkov of Northwestern, the fourth seed, in the third round of competition tomorrow.

Competition in qualifying rounds will continue tomorrow at the Indoor Tennis Facility on the Michigan State University campus. Main draw competition will begin tomorrow as well.
