Nov. 18, 2005

University of Iowa sophomore running back Albert Young has been named one of ten semi-finalists for the prestigious Doak Walker Award. The award goes annually to the nation’s top running back.

Young, a 5-10, 207-pounder from Moorestown, NJ, has gained 1,197 yards in 215 attempts this season. He ranks fifth nationally and second in the Big Ten in rushing yards per game. He has topped the 100-yard mark in six straight games and seven times this year.

Young is the 11th Iowa running back to rush for more than 1,000 yards in a season and the fourth Hawkeye sophomore to do it.

Joining Young on the list from the Big Ten are Wisconsin’s Brian Calhoun and Minnesota’s Laurence Maroney. Three finalists will be named next week with the winner being announced on Dec. 8th.
