Oklahoma out-scored Iowa 32-11 the final 11 minutes of the first half after the Hawkeyes opened the game with an 18-11 advantage. The Sooners out-scored Iowa 17-5 in second chance points in the first half and 48-16 for the game.
Oklahoma’s Paris twins, Courtney and Ashley, combined for 44 points on 21-28 shooting from the field and 2-4 from the foul line. Courtney posted her third double-double of the season, collecting game highs in points (30) and rebounds (14). Her sister Ashley recorded 14 points and seven rebounds. The Paris twins are natives of nearby Piedmont, CA, in the Bay Area.
Oklahoma’s Erin Higgins scored all of her 14 points in the first half, bolstered by 4-5 shooting from behind the arc in the first stanza. Higgins was only 1-6 for the game from 3-point range in last year’s contest against Iowa in the Junkanoo Jam.
Oklahoma registered its first victory over Iowa in three tries. The 85 points scored by Oklahoma are the most by the Sooners against Iowa in three-game series history.
Iowa converted a season-best 89.5 percent (17-19) from the charity stripe tonight, including 6-7 from Crystal Smith. Conversely, the Hawkeyes shot a season-low .383 (23-60) from the field.
Freshman Megan Skouby netted all of her 11 points in the second half. She also matched a season high with six rebounds.
Senior Tiffany Reedy scored all of her points from behind the arc, shooting 3-4 from 3-point range.
Crystal Smith netted a team-high 15 points and also collected a game-high five steals.
Sophomore Krista VandeVenter pulled down a team-high 11 rebounds for the second-consecutive game. She also finished with seven points and two assists.
Iowa will play Rider im the consolation game of the Odwalla Classic Saturday at 7:05 p.m. (CST).
