It's Not Too Early...

Jan. 6, 2006

It’s January 6…so that means it’s not too early to be looking ahead to the 2006 college football season and the Iowa Hawkeyes’ march to a record fifth straight January bowl game.

Kirk Ferentz’s squad will open ’06 with a home game on Sept. 2 – one of seven to be played in Iowa City. And, while the opponent remains “to-be-announced,” the plan does call for the $89 million renovation of the UI’s historic Kinnick Stadium to be complete.

It’s also likely that the transition from 2005 to 2006 on the playing field will be nearing completion when the Hawkeyes take the field in early September. ESPN’s Pat Forde likes the look of next year’s Hawkeyes and has included them in his first Top 25 of the season.

And, yes, while Forde states the obvious: Drew Tate and Albert Young are among those who return for another year while the likes of Chad Greenway, Abdul Hodge and Jovon Johnson move on.

However, that’s the beauty of college football. Hawk fans, let us introduce you to Mike Klinkenborg, Edmond Miles, Gavin McGrath, Devan Moylan, and Bradley Fletcher.
