THIS WEEK — The University of Iowa women’s track team will compete in the UNI Invitational in Cedar Falls, IA, Friday and Saturday in the UNI-dome. The women’s pentathlon will kick-off the meet Friday at 3 p.m. Competition resumes Saturday with field events at 11 a.m. and running events slated to begin at 1:30 p.m.

LAST WEEK — Three Hawkeye women came home with first place finishes in the Jack Johnson Classic (formerly the Gold Country Classic). Five individuals also had top-three finishes in their events and the 1,600-meter relay team took second place.

Sophomore Meghan Armstrong was first in the mile with a personal best time of 4:48.14. Newcomer Krista Anderson was tops in the 3,000 meters with a collegiate best time of 9:37.87 and junior Tiffany Johnson won the hurdles in 8.46.

Several athletes set new personal best marks in their respective events:

— Juniors: Aditya Jones, 600 meters (1:39.61).

— Sophomores: Kineke Alexander, 200 meters (24.48); Meghan Armstrong, mile (4:48.14); Allison Billhardt, mile (5:10.69); Molly Esche, 3,000 meters (10:23.54); Jordan Laney, mile (5:18.13); Racheal Marchand, 3,000 meters (10:08.49); Jessica Schmidt, 3,000 meters (10:33.79).

— Freshmen: Krista Anderson, 3,000 meters (9:37.87); Amanda Chandler, shot put (43-2.25); Jennie Docherty, 800 meters (2:19.53); Rachel Hawks, mile (5:29.65).

CRACKING THE TOP TEN — Three freshmen have managed to break into the Iowa Top Ten Indoor Performers lists early in the season. Krista Anderson’s 4:51.74 mile is number eight on that list and her 9:37.87 time in the 3,000 meter run is the fifth best performance at Iowa. Amanda Chandler has the 10th best shot put mark of 43-2.25 and Renee White is third on the long jump list with a distance of 19-1.25.

Sophomores Kineke Alexander and Meghan Armstrong have improved their standing in two events. Alexander moved up to fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 24.48 and Armstrong has the fifth best mile performance with a time of 4:48.14.
