EVANSTON, IL – The University of Iowa men and women’s swimming and diving team traveled to Northwestern on Friday evening. The Hawkeye men fell to the Wildcats 178-77 and the women lost 186-108. The men’s season record now stands at 3-5 (0-3 Big Ten) and the women are 5-6 (0-4 Big Ten).
Senior Kelly Werner led the Hawkeye women with a first place in the 100 backstroke (57.54) and second place in the 200 backstroke (2:03.86) and the 100 butterfly (57.87). Senior Katie Martin took first place in the 100 freestyle (52.98) and third in the 50 freestyle (24.57). Junior Emmy Haeger placed second in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.58) and 200 breaststroke (2:03.86).
Freshman Nick Divan led the Hawkeye men with a second place in the 1,000 freestyle (9:30.24) and 500 freestyle (4:38.54). Sophomore Andrej Lenert had second place finishes in the 100 backstroke (54.08) and 200 backstroke (1:57.16). Senior Trevor Haley placed second in the 200 butterfly (1:52.67) and third in the 400 individual medley (3:13.98).
The Hawkeyes return to action Saturday, January 28th, when they travel to the University of Illinois-Chicago. The meet in Chicago will start at 1 p.m. in the Flames Natatorium on the UIC campus.
