Former University of Iowa all-American and Big Ten champion Eugene Wettstone will be inducted into the New Jersey Hudson Country Hall of Fame on March 23rd.
Wettstone won three (all-around, pommel horse and horizontal bar) national titles while attending the University of Iowa. He was a two-time Big Ten champion (all-around and pommel horse) in 1935 and a three-time champ in 1937 (all-around, horizontal bar and pommel horse). He helped Iowa win its first Big Ten gymnastics title in 1937.
Wettstone, 93, went on to coach for 39 years at Penn State where he won nine national titles. One of his former Nittany Lion gymnasts is current Iowa Coach Tom Dunn.
