Hawkeyes To Play In Alabama

THIS WEEK — The Iowa men’s golf team will compete at the USA Spring Classic Monday and Tuesday in Mobile, AL. The two day event is hosted by South Alabama at Herron Lakes Country Club. The field will also include South Alabama, Louisiana-Monroe, South Florida, Miami (OH), Mississippi, Mississippi State Eastern Michigan, Michigan, Mercer, Southern Mississippi and Middle Tennessee State. The course is par 72 and 6,807 yards long. Play will begin with 36 holes on Monday beginning at 8:30 a.m. and finish Tuesday with 18 holes at 8 a.m.

LAST TIME OUT — For the first time this season the Iowa Men’s Golf team failed to finish in the top five. The Hawkeyes finished the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate in 14th place. In the tournament only one golfer in the entire field finished par or better.

HEAD COACH Terry Anderson — Anderson is in his 13th year as Iowa’s head coach. Anderson was a four-year letterman at Iowa State. He also serves as the Director of Golf at Iowa’s Finkbine Golf Course. He was named the PGA Golf Professional of the Year for the Iowa PGA Section in 1998 and 2004.

QUOTING COACH ANDERSON — “We are hoping to get back in to a competitive mode to get us ready. We need to start gearing up for a stretch run to prepare us for the rest of the season and the Big Ten Tournament. Last time out we were rusty, but we are going to work hard and should be able to rebound next time out.”
