MINNEAPOLIS, MN – The 7th-ranked University of Iowa men’s gymnastics team defeated No. 10 Minnesota Friday evening at the Sports Pavilion in Minneapolis. The final score was 212-211.150. Michael Reavis placed first on floor with a 9.55, while Geoff Reins came in second on the event with a 9.15.
On pommel horse, Jake Becker had the best score for the Hawkeyes, with a first place 8.95. Curtis Kleffman placed third with an 8.8 on the horse. On rings, Matt Beiler and Jack Bouchard claimed the top two spots. Beiler scored a first place 9.45 while Bouchard came in second with a 9.4. Reavis placed fourth with a 9.0.
Reins had the best showing on vault for the Hawkeyes, placing second with a score of 9.2. Diego Mercado-Austin tied for fourth on the event, scoring 8.85.
On parallel bars, Kleffman claimed second place with a 9.1, while Reavis came in third, scoring 8.95. Bryan Bourland had the best high bar placing for Iowa, tying for first place with a score of 8.9. Reavis placed third with an 8.75 while Tom Beuse placed sixth with an 8.45. In the all-around, Reavis placed second with a score of 52.6.
The Hawkeyes host the Big Ten Championships in Carver-Hawkeye Arena on March 24-25. Six Big Ten powerhouses will be present at the two-day competition.
