IOWA CITY – The University of Iowa women’s cross country team has been named an academic all-American squad by the Women’s Intercollegiate Cross Country Coaches Association (WICCCA) for the third consecutive year. To claim this distinction, a team must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above; Iowa’s GPA was 3.18 this season. Iowa was one of 116 teams that earned the national honor. Other Big Ten Conference schools honored include Indiana (3.76), Purdue (3.59), and Ohio State (3.53). Mississippi State, a member of the Southeastern conference led all honorees recording a team average of 3.78.
Sophomore Meghan Armstrong was one of 67 individuals named Academic all-Americans by the WICCCA. Armstrong, a pre-exercise science major with a 3.4 GPA, was the team’s top runner this season as well. She was named to the Midwest all-Region team and placed 79th at the NCAA Championships.
