University of Iowa senior tight end Scott Chandler has been named to the 2006 John Mackey Award watch list. The award is given annually to college football’s best tight end.
Chandler, a 6-7, 257-lb receiver from Southlake, TX, has already been named to Street & Smith’s pre-season honorable mention all-America team. He’s made 71 career receptions for 876 yards and four touchdowns.
He started Iowa’s final 10 games at tight end last year and enters the fall campaign as a legitimate all-star candidate. Chandler came to Iowa as a wide receiver and made the switch to tight end during fall practice in 2004.
Iowa opens its season Saturday, September 2 when it hosts Montana in Kinnick Stadium. Kickoff is slated for 11:05 a.m. and the game will be televised on ESPNU.
