Hickey Leads Qualifiers

University of Iowa sophomore thrower John Hickey leads all shot put qualifiers at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) World Junior Championships in Beijing, China. Hickey, who won the USATF Junior National shot put title in June to advance to this meet, posted a 63-11 1/2 throw in his third attempt in Friday’s preliminary round to advance to Saturday’s finals. His throw was over seven inches farther than Kuwait’s Mohammad Mashari, who posted the second-best mark of 63-4 1/4 on the day.
