Columbia, MO – The University of Iowa soccer team was defeated by Missouri, 2-0 in the first day of the Tiger Invitational. Iowa recorded 11 shots, but could not find the back of the net.
Missouri took an early 1-0 lead in the 11th minute when Ashley Hamblin converted from the penalty spot. The Tigers increased the advantage to 2-0 in the 58th minute after Kristin Andrighetto scored off a cross from Hamblin.
Sophomore Stephanie Hyink led the Iowa offense with five shots. Freshman Kathleen Smokowski added two shots for the Hawkeyes.
Senior Ali Becker played the entire 90 minutes in goal and recorded six saves in her first start at Iowa.
“We generated some nice chances, but we weren’t lucky enough to put one in goal,” Head Coach Ron Rainey said. “We had some mistakes that led to the Missouri goals, but we need to learn to take advantage of the chances we create.”
The Hawkeyes take on South Carolina Sunday at 11 a.m. in the final game of the Tiger Invitational. Live stats (gametracker) can be found at www.hawkeyesports.com.
