Hawkeyes Compete In Indiana

THIS WEEK — The Iowa women’s golf team travels to Franklin, IN, Monday and Tuesday to compete in the Shootout at the Legends tournament. The 54-hole tournament will be held at the par-72 Legends Golf Course. Teams will play 36 holes Monday and 18 Tuesday with an 8 a.m. shotgun start each day.

THE COMPETITION — The 18 competing teams include: Cincinnati, Ball State, Eastern Michigan, Indiana State, Illinois, Illinois State, Iowa, Wisconsin, Old Dominion, Toledo, Western Michigan, Georgetown, Southern Illinois, St. John’s, Campbell, Ohio University, Northern Illinois and Missouri State.

LINEUP — Competing for the Hawkeyes will be Melanie Boyles, Jill Marcum, Tyrette Metzendorf, Karla Murra and Amy Riepma.

LAST COMPETITION — Iowa finished seventh at the 14-team Lady Irish Invitational two weeks ago. Iowa carded a low round of 312 and finished with a total of 942. Junior Jill Marcum tied for fifth to lead the Hawkeyes with a 229 (+13). This marked the second time Marcum finished in the top five this season She leads the Hawkeyes in scoring average (77.3).

SHOOTOUT AT THE LEGENDS HISTORY — Last year the Hawkeyes finished 11th at the 19-team tournament with a score of 921. Metzendorf led Iowa carding a five over par, 221, including a low round of 70. She finished ninth overall.

SENIORS — With no seniors on the 2005-06 roster, this year’s seniors are making a big impact. Riepma and Murra have each led the Hawkeyes in two of the last three tournaments.
