Tickets on Sale For Women's Basketball

Oct. 6, 2006

Hawkeye fans, the women’s basketball season is fast approaching and single game and season ticket packages for students, faculty and staff and the general public are now available.

The women’s basketball team boasted an 11-3 regular season record last year in friendly confines of Carver-Hawkeye Arena and ranked 25th nationally in attendance.

Fans of Lisa Bluder’s team can purchase season tickets online at the UI Athletic Department’s official web site: hawkeyesports.com, over the phone at 1-800-IA-HAWKS or 319-335-9309, or in person at the UI Ticket Office located at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Single-game tickets can be purchased over the phone and at the UI Ticket Office.

A general public season ticket costs only $70 for 17 games, while tickets for UI faculty and staff are only $56. Children 18-years-and-under can purchase a season ticket for only $15. UI students are admitted free of charge to every game, if they present their UI Student ID at the entrance of Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

Single-game tickets are $7 for adults. Youths are admitted for $5 on weekend games, but will be admitted free on weekday contests (except the Iowa State game on Nov. 30).

Fans interested in group tickets sales can call the UI Sports Marketing Office at 319-335-9431.

“We are excited to get the season underway,” said Bluder. “We have been ranked in the top 25 in attendance 15 of the 17 years and hope our loyal fans will continue their support. We have a young and talented team that has high aspirations this season.”

The women’s basketball team’s schedule looks to be just as challenging as last year’s, if not more demanding. The Hawkeyes have the potential to play 16 teams that competed in 2006 post-season tournaments, including eight that participated in the NCAA Tournament. Iowa will play 17 games (two exhibitions) inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena, the most regular season home contests in school history.

Last week, Lindy’s ranked Iowa 24th in the nation in its pre-season poll. The ranking is the first time the Hawkeyes are ranked by a pre-season publication since 2001.

Iowa returns 10 experienced letterwinners, including Big Ten Freshman of the Year and second team all-conference honoree Megan Skouby and honorable mention all-league Krista VandeVenter. Also returning is starting sophomore point guard Kristi Smith, who broke the Iowa single-season freshman assists record last year and sophomore small forward Wendy Ausdemore, who missed only two free throws the entire 2005-06 campaign.

The Hawkeyes open their season with exhibition games against Northern State (Nov. 1) and Concordia (Nov. 6). Both games will tip-off at 6:35 p.m. inside Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
