The men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled to Terre Haute, IN to compete in the pre-nationals. The women competed in a very competitive field of 36 teams in the 6,000 meter race, while the men raced among ten ranked teams in the 8,000 meter race.
In the women’s race the nationally first ranked Stanford team held strong to capture the team title. Pacing the pack was Michelle Sikes from Wake Forest winning the individual title in a time of 20:16. The Hawkeyes were lead to a tenth place finish by junior Meghan Armstrong (13th, 20:34). Other runners for Iowa were junior Racheal Marchand (33rd, 20:35), junior Diane Nukuri (63rd, 21:17), red shirt freshman Krista Anderson (117th, 21:48), and senior Shannon Stanley (120th, 21:49) and freshman Jolly Burke (159th, 22:10).
The Hawkeyes will compete next at the Big Ten Championships in Bloomington, IN.
