COLUMBIA, MO – The University of Iowa’s men and women’s swimming and diving team faced the Southern Illinois Salukis on Friday night at the Mizzou Dual Meet Challenge. The Iowa men lost 102.5-62.5 and the Hawkeye women won 96-90. The Hawkeye men drop to 2-3 (1-2 Big Ten), and the Iowa women now stand at 2-3 (0-3 Big Ten). The host Missouri Tigers also competed with Southern Illinois, and in the same heats as the Hawkeyes.
Junior Dragos Agache led the Hawkeye men with a win in the 100 yard breaststroke (56.81). Senior Paul Divan placed third in the 100 breast (58.33). The Hawkeye’s 400 yard medley relay team of Andrej Lenert, Paul Divan, Josh Schubert and Nick Divan placed third at 3:30.02.
Freshman Margie Chamberlin led the Iowa women with a win in the 100 yard butterfly (57.75). Fellow freshman Christine Kuczek placed second in the 100 yard freestyle (52.49). Senior Emmy Haeger and freshman Laura Mozdzen finished third in the 100 breast (1:05.63) and the 100 fly (58.03) respectively.
The Hawkeyes will return to action tomorrow, when they face the Drury University Panthers and the host Missouri Tigers at 10:30 a.m., and the University of Louisville Cardinals at 5 p.m. All meets will be held at the University of Missouri Aquatics Center.
