Minneapolis, MN – The men and women’s cross country teams traveled to Minneapolis, MN, to compete in the Midwest regional meet. The women competed in 6,000-meter race, while the men raced in the 10,000-meter race. This meet was the qualifying meet for the NCAA cross country championship meet.
Winning the women’s individual title and breaking her third school record was first year Hawkeye, Diane Nukuri (20:34). Nukuri, a junior, also earned herself an automatic spot in the NCAA championship meet. The pervious school record was set by teammate Meghan Armstrong, a junior, (20:49) last year at pre-nationals. Armstrong crossed the finish line second for the Hawkeyes. Her eighth place finish in a time of 21:05 guarantees her a spot along side Nukuri in the NCAA championship meet. A strong group effort helped the Hawkeyes secure a third place finish and a chance to qualify for the NCAA championship meet. Running for Iowa was; Armstrong (8th, 21:05), junior Racheal Marchand (9th, 21:07), junior Jessica Schmidt (47th, 22:20), freshman Krista Anderson (56th, 22:36), freshman Jolly Burke (71st, 22:51) and junior Molly Esche (92nd, 23:14). Qualifying teams from the Midwest region for the women were Illinois (1st, 44pts.) and Minnesota (2nd, 49pts.).
