Three Hawkeye Named To The USA Under 21 Team

IOWA CITY – Three University of Iowa field hockey players were named to the United States Under-21 field hockey team, which is scheduled to compete against the Chinese junior team early in March 2007. Junior Kadi Sickel and sophomore Caitlin McCurdy were selected to the team, while sophomore Lauren Pfeiffer was named an alternate.

Sickel, a back from Plaistow, NH, was named a third team all-American by www.WomensFieldHockey.com, first team NFCHA West Regional all-American and a second team all-Big Ten selection during her junior campaign. She led the Hawkeyes in assists with 12 and ranked third on the team in points scored with 18. Sickel scored three goals on only eight shots throughout the season.

McCurdy, a forward from Mountain Top, PA, was a second team NFCHA West Regional all-America selection as well as being named Big Ten Player of the Week after scoring three goals and two assists in a span of two games. She finished her sophomore season with the team lead in goals (10) and points scored (22).

Pfeiffer, the 2006 Big Ten Tournament MVP, from Mt. Laurel, NJ, was named an alternate to the Under-21 Team. This season, she was a second team West Regional all-America selection by the NFCHA. Pfeiffer was named National Player of the Week by www.WomensFieldHockey.com after scoring five goals in three games during the Big Ten Tournament. Her efforts helped the Hawkeyes win their second Big Ten Tournament Championship. Pfeiffer finished the season tied for the team lead in goals (10) and points scored (22).
